Why Your Bikini Slips When Surfing
Share
You put on your bikini and think: perfect fit.
Then the first wave hits – and suddenly nothing is quite where it was before.
The top slides up, the bottom down, and during the next wipeout you're more busy adjusting your bikini than surfing.
And no: That's usually not your fault.
Many bikinis are simply not designed for what actually happens in the water. A wave pushes and pulls from different directions simultaneously, while your body moves. A few straps or an elastic waistband have to withstand a lot.
For me, a very simple question became crucial at some point:
Where should a bikini actually find its hold?
The waist.
It's the narrowest part of your body. What sits there cannot simply slide down over your hips or up over your rib cage.
This is exactly how our WaveHold™ Band came to be.
A strong elastic band that runs directly through the waist in our styles – in the bottom, top, and rashguard. It sits where your body is narrowest and gives the bikini a firm hold.
And yes, you will feel the band.
That's on purpose. Because a band you don't notice at all probably won't hold you during a wipeout either.
I studied fashion design and worked in the fashion industry for over six years. At AFATO, we therefore test every new cut in the water before it even goes on sale.
We surf. Adjust the cut. Test again.
Until the bikini not only looks good, but also stays where it belongs.
Because when surfing, you should only have to worry about one thing:
Surfing.
See you soon
